Emily Gaskins was born on May 23, 2000, in Coral Springs, Florida, to parents Ronald and Kim. She grew up with two older sisters, Allison and Kayla, who were both cheerleaders. At the age of 12, Emily moved to Ohio with her mother to train at the Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy.
Emily quickly showed promise in gymnastics and became a member of the U.S. Junior National team. She made her national debut at the 2012 Landover competition, where she took first place in the all-around, uneven bars, and floor exercise.
