Dylan Larkin was born on July 30, 1996, in Waterford, MI to parents Kevin and Sidney Larkin. He grew up alongside his brother Colin in a sports-loving family. From a young age, Larkin showed a natural talent for hockey and began playing the sport at a local rink in his hometown.
Larkin's talent on the ice quickly became evident as he joined Team USA's under-17 team in his first season with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program. He then progressed to the under-18 team, showcasing his skills and dedication to the sport.
After his time with the national team, Larkin went on to play college hockey at the University of Michigan. In his one season with the team, he made a significant impact, being named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team and All-Big Ten First Team. Larkin was also crowned the Big Ten Freshman of the Year for his outstanding performance on the ice.
In the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Larkin was selected as the 15th overall pick by the Detroit Red Wings. He made his debut with the team on opening night in 2015 at the age of 19, becoming the first 19-year-old to debut on opening night since the 1990-91 season.
