Donovan Melero was born on May 3, 1989 in Ventura, California. He grew up in a musical household, with both of his parents, Aurelio and Nanette, being music enthusiasts. Donovan has three siblings - his brother Adam, and sisters Nika and Risa. From a young age, Donovan showed a keen interest in music and quickly developed a passion for drumming.
After completing his high school education, Donovan went on to attend California State University, Chico, where he graduated in 2011. During his time at university, Donovan honed his drumming skills and became involved in the local music scene. It was here that he first began performing with various bands, laying the foundation for his future career in music.
In September of 2009, Donovan joined the post-hardcore band Hail the Sun as their drummer and vocalist. The band quickly gained popularity within the underground music scene, thanks in part to Donovan's dynamic drumming and powerful vocals. Hail the Sun's unique sound and energetic live performances helped them to build a loyal fanbase, and they soon began to tour extensively across the United States.
In addition to his work with Hail the Sun, Donovan also became involved in other musical projects.
