Dominique Wilkins, known as "The Human Highlight Film," was born on December 12, 1960 in Paris, France. He grew up in Washington, North Carolina where he discovered his love for basketball at a young age. Wilkins attended the University of Georgia where he excelled on the basketball court and was named the SEC Men's Basketball Player of the Year.
After his junior season, Wilkins decided to forgo his senior year and enter the NBA draft. He was selected by the Utah Jazz as the third overall pick in the 1982 NBA Draft, but was immediately traded to the Atlanta Hawks, where he would spend the majority of his professional career.
Wilkins quickly became a fan favorite in Atlanta with his incredible scoring ability and high-flying dunks. He was a 9-time NBA All-Star and led the league in scoring in 1986. Wilkins was known for his legendary battles against fellow NBA superstar, Michael Jordan, in the Slam Dunk Contest, coming away with two victories.
