Dominic James Dwyer, known to many as Dom Dwyer, was born on July 30, 1990, in Cuckfield, England. He grew up in a loving family, with parents Chris and Linda Dwyer who supported his passion for soccer from a young age.
In 2009, at the age of 19, Dwyer made the bold decision to move to the United States to pursue his dream of playing professional soccer. He enrolled at the University of South Florida, where he played college soccer for one year before making the leap to the MLS.
Dwyer's professional career took off in 2012 when he was selected 16th overall in the MLS SuperDraft by Sporting Kansas City. He quickly made a name for himself as a forward and prolific scorer, earning a spot on the team alongside players like CJ Sapong.
After five successful seasons with Sporting Kansas City, Dwyer was traded to Orlando City in 2017. He continued to showcase his talent on the field, solidifying his reputation as a top goal-scorer in the league.
In 2021, Dwyer made another move, this time to Toronto FC. Despite facing challenges and setbacks, he remained determined and focused on his goals.
Most recently, in 2022, Dwyer signed a two-year deal with Atlanta United, marking a new chapter in his MLS journey. He remains committed to giving his all on the field and making a positive impact both on and off the field.
Off the field, Dwyer's personal life has also made headlines. In 2015, he married fellow soccer player Sydney Leroux, with whom he shares a son named Cassius.
In 2021, Dwyer and Leroux announced their divorce, but they remain dedicated co-parents to their son. Despite the challenges of balancing a career in professional sports with family life, Dwyer continues to prioritize his role as a father and remains actively involved in his son's life.
In March 2017, Dwyer officially became a U.S. citizen, a significant milestone in his journey from England to the States.
As Dom Dwyer continues to make his mark in the MLS, both on and off the field, he serves as an inspiration to aspiring young athletes and fans alike. His passion for the game, perseverance in the face of adversity, and commitment to family are qualities that set him apart as not just a talented soccer player, but a role model and leader in the sports world.
