Dr. Diana Atwine is a highly respected medical doctor and government official known for her remarkable achievements in the field of healthcare in Uganda. She currently holds the position of Permanent Secretary at the Ugandan Ministry of Health, a role she has excelled in since November 2016. Her commitment to the well-being of the Ugandan people has been evident throughout her career, where she has served in various capacities, including as the President's Private Secretary in Charge of Medical Affairs.
Dr. Atwine's journey in the medical field began with her education at Mbarara University School of Medicine, where she earned her bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery degree. She further pursued her studies and obtained a master of medicine degree with a specialization in Internal Medicine from the same university. Her early career saw her working at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya and later at the Uganda Joint Clinical Research Center.
One of Dr. Atwine's notable accomplishments was being appointed to lead the Medicine and Health Services Delivery Monitoring Unit in 2009. In this role, she played a crucial part in uncovering various instances of corruption within the Ministry of Health. Notably, she exposed an illegal drug selling operation involving officials from Uganda and Kenya, as well as the discovery of nearly 300 ghost employees on the Mulago National Referral Hospital's payroll.
Family is an essential aspect of Dr. Atwine's life, as she is the daughter of Ernest and Joy Kensheka Rujundira and the third child in her family. She has a loving family of her own with three children, whom she shares with her husband Mr. Kamzira.
