DeVonté was a natural athlete with dreams of pursuing a career in basketball. However, realizing that his height might limit his success in the sport, he decided to switch to tumbling and cheer at the suggestion of his family members. At the age of 12, he began training in tumbling at Flip City South in Stockbridge, GA.

He gained widespread attention for his incredible talent and dedication to his craft. DeVonté was the first tumbler to successfully execute a "full quint," a move that involves five full midair turns. His signature move was so dangerous that it was banned from being performed at the Daytona championships.
