Destra Garcia was born on October 11, 1977, in Trinidad and Tobago. She is the oldest of four siblings and grew up surrounded by music. From a young age, Destra showed a passion for performing, often putting on shows for her family and friends.
Destra's musical journey began when she joined the quartet PSYKE, where she honed her skills as a singer and performer. Despite her early success with PSYKE, Destra decided to further her education and pursued a diploma in Sales Management from the School of Business and Management.
Despite her focus on her education, Destra never strayed far from music. She continued to perform and write her own songs, eventually earning the title of Calypso Monarch at her school for five consecutive years.
Destra's big break came when she formed the band Atlantik, where she served as the lead singer. Known for her energetic live performances and unique fashion sense, Destra quickly became a fan favorite in the soca music scene. She released hit after hit, including songs like "It's Carnival," "Come Beta," and "We Say So."
One of Destra's most notable collaborations was with soca singer Machel Montano on the 2003 duet "It's Carnival," which solidified her status as a rising star in the world of soca music.
Aside from her music career, Destra is a proud mother to her first child, Xaiya, who was born in 2010. Despite the demands of her busy schedule, Destra always makes time for her family and values their support and love.
