Desmond King II was born on December 14, 1994, in Detroit, Michigan. He was raised by his mother, Yvette, in a close-knit family. Growing up in Detroit, King developed a love for football at a young age and began playing in local youth leagues.
King attended the University of Iowa, where he played college football for the Iowa Hawkeyes. During his time at Iowa, he established himself as one of the top defensive backs in the country. He was twice named to the first team All-Big Ten and earned the title of Unanimous First-team All-American.
