Derian Hatcher was born on April 6, 1972, in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Growing up, he and his brother Kevin shared a love for hockey. Their passion for the sport would eventually lead both of them to successful careers in the NHL.
In 1990, Hatcher was drafted 8th overall by the Minnesota North Stars. He made his NHL debut during the 1991-92 season after playing with the North Bay Centennials in the OHL. Hatcher quickly established himself as a physical defender, using his size and strength to dominate opponents on the ice.
