Demetrius Flenory, also known as Big Meech, was born on June 21, 1968, in Michigan. He grew up in a rough neighborhood in Detroit, where he was exposed to the street life from a young age. Flenory's family struggled to make ends meet, which pushed him towards a life of crime in order to provide for himself and his loved ones.
In the 1980s, Flenory began distributing drugs in Detroit, starting small but quickly gaining notoriety for his business acumen and ruthless tactics. He saw an opportunity to expand his operation beyond Detroit and ventured into Los Angeles and Atlanta, Georgia. It was during this period that Flenory, along with his brother Terry Flenory, founded the Black Mafia Family (BMF).
BMF quickly grew to become one of the largest drug trafficking organizations in the United States, specializing in the distribution of cocaine. Flenory's charisma and leadership skills helped the organization flourish, making him a prominent figure in the criminal underworld. BMF became known for its extravagant lifestyle, with Flenory and his associates flaunting their wealth and power.
Despite his success, Flenory's criminal activities eventually caught up with him. In 2005, he was arrested and charged with operating a criminal enterprise, leading to his eventual conviction and sentencing to 30 years in federal prison. Flenory served his sentence at the United States Penitentiary, Florence High, where he continued to exert influence over BMF from behind bars.
Flenory's brother, Terry Flenory, was also heavily involved in BMF and served as a co-founder of the organization. The Flenory family's criminal enterprise ran deep, with family members playing key roles in the operation. Flenory's son, Demetrius Flenory Jr., even portrayed his father in the documentary series Black Mafia Family, highlighting the family's ties to the criminal underworld.
Despite his incarceration, Flenory's influence and legacy live on. BMF Entertainment, the entertainment branch of the organization, promoted rapper Young Jeezy and helped launch the careers of numerous artists. Flenory's story continues to fascinate and inspire, serving as a cautionary tale of the dangers of pursuing wealth and power through criminal means.
