Early Life
Debbie Mayes, the matriarch of The Mayes Team, was born and raised in the United Kingdom. Growing up, she had always dreamed of living a different kind of lifestyle, one that was more sustainable and close to nature.
Meeting Gabriel Mayes
It was during her time at a ministry school in Illinois that she met her future husband, Gabriel Mayes. The two instantly connected over their shared passion for living intentionally and dreaming big.
Starting Their Family
After getting married, Debbie and Gabriel wasted no time in starting a family. They now have five beautiful children: Gracen, Darby, Deacon, Jovey, and the late Gideon. Their family dynamic is one of love, adventure, and making memories together.
The Tiny Home Movement
Debbie and Gabriel are part of the Tiny Home movement, a growing community of people who choose to live in small, sustainable homes. They decided to take it a step further by converting a school bus into their very own mobile home. It took them six months and $35,000 to transform the bus into a cozy living space complete with a full kitchen, a master bedroom, and four bunk beds.
Documenting Their Journey
The Mayes family documents their lives on social media, specifically on Instagram, where they have gained a following of over 80,000 people. Through their posts and stories, they share the ups and downs of living in a converted school bus, inspiring others to think outside the box when it comes to living spaces.
Personal Growth
Debbie and Gabriel's journey has been one of personal growth and transformation. They have learned valuable lessons about minimalism, sustainability, and the importance of family bonds. Their children have grown up with a unique perspective on life, one that values experiences over possessions and connection over material wealth.
Community Involvement
In addition to their online presence, Debbie and Gabriel are actively involved in their local community, offering support and guidance to others who are interested in alternative living arrangements. They host workshops, events, and meetups to connect with like-minded individuals and spread the message of intentional living.
As the Mayes family continues to evolve and grow, one thing remains constant: their unwavering commitment to living a life that is true to their values and beliefs. They are an inspiration to many, showing that it is possible to create a fulfilling and meaningful life, no matter where you call home.
