David Lighty was born on May 27, 1988, in Ohio. He discovered his passion for basketball at a young age and honed his skills at Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School. It was here that he made a name for himself and was named Player of the Year by The Plain Dealer.
After high school, Lighty went on to play college basketball for the Ohio State Buckeyes. During his time at Ohio State, he was named to the All-Big Ten Defensive team in 2011.
