David Fine was born on March 19, 1952, in Delaware. He grew up in a middle-class family and attended the Wilmington Friends School, where he excelled academically and showed a passion for social justice issues.
In 1969, Fine enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he quickly became involved in anti-war protests. He was passionate about ending the Vietnam War and was vocal in his opposition to the university's research efforts on behalf of the U.S. army.
On August 24, 1970, Fine was one of four people involved in the Sterling Hall bombing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The bombing was a direct protest against the university's involvement with the army. Although no one was killed in the attack, it caused significant damage to the building and sent shockwaves through the community.
After the bombing, Fine was arrested and sentenced to three years in prison. He was eventually paroled and decided to turn his life around. He enrolled at the University of Delaware, where he obtained a degree, and later, he pursued a law degree at the University of Oregon.
Despite his troubled past, Fine was able to start a new chapter in his life. He married and settled in Portland, Oregon, where he worked as a paralegal. He dedicated himself to helping others navigate the legal system and was known for his empathy and dedication to social justice causes.
