David Begnaud was born on June 13, 1983, in Lafayette, Louisiana. From a young age, he had a passion for storytelling and journalism. He began his career in television reporting while still in high school at KLFY TV 10 in Lafayette.
After graduating from high school, Begnaud went on to pursue a bachelor's degree in general studies from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He graduated in 2005 with a solid foundation in communication and storytelling.
Following his graduation, Begnaud embarked on a career in television journalism. He started at KSLA, a television station in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he honed his reporting skills and built a strong portfolio. He then moved on to KOVR in Sacramento, gaining valuable experience in the industry.

In 2017, Begnaud joined CBS News as the lead national correspondent for CBS Mornings. He was sent to Puerto Rico by CBS News to cover Hurricane Irma and ended up staying to report on Hurricane Maria.
