Daniel DiNardo was born on May 23, 1949 in Steubenville, Ohio. He grew up in a devout Catholic family and was deeply involved in the church from a young age. DiNardo attended local Catholic schools and went on to study at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Ohio. After earning his Bachelor's degree, he continued his studies at the Catholic University of America, where he obtained a Master's degree in Philosophy.

In 2007, DiNardo made history by becoming the first cardinal from a diocese in the Southern United States. His elevation to cardinal was announced by Pope Benedict XVI.
