Chris Matthews was born on June 10, 1989, in California. He grew up surrounded by football, as his father Darell played college football at Lane College. Chris followed in his father's footsteps and began his football career at Los Angeles Harbor College. After two successful years at Los Angeles Harbor, he transferred to the University of Kentucky to continue playing at a higher level.
After going undrafted in the NFL, Chris signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League in 2012. In his first season with the team, he made an immediate impact and was awarded the Most Outstanding Rookie Award.
