Brian Williams was born on May 5, 1959 in Ridgewood, New Jersey. He began his journalism career at a young age, working for his high school newspaper. He later attended college at George Washington University, where he studied broadcast journalism. During his time at college, Williams gained experience working at a local radio station as a news intern.
After graduating, Williams started working in television news, first as a reporter for a small station in Kansas. He quickly rose through the ranks, eventually landing a job at NBC News as a correspondent.

As a result of the scandal, Williams was suspended from NBC Nightly News for six months. Lester Holt temporarily took over as anchor during Williams' absence. Despite the setback, Williams eventually returned to the network and resumed his role as anchor.

He married Jane Stoddard Williams on June 7, 1986, and the couple has two children together, a daughter named Allison and a son named Douglas.
