Born on July 18, 1995, in Burlington, New Jersey, Breland was raised in a musical household by his parents, Tonya and Gerard Breland, who were both ordained ministers. Growing up, gospel music filled their home, and his parents even recorded a gospel album when he was a child. It was from this rich musical environment that Breland developed his passion for music.
Despite his love for music, Breland initially chose to study business at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, after being accepted into New York University's Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music. However, his artistic calling proved too strong, and he eventually moved to Atlanta after graduation to pursue a career in music.
Upon moving to Atlanta, Breland worked in the tech industry during the day while honing his musical skills at night. He taught himself how to engineer using software like Pro Tools, Logic Pro, and FL Studio. In just three years, he wrote nearly 2,000 songs, showcasing his dedication to his craft.
Breland's big break came with his 2019 debut single, "My Truck," which blended elements of country rap, R&B, gospel, and soul music. The song quickly gained popularity and reached No. 26 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart. A remix of the track featuring Sam Hunt went on to be certified platinum for selling over 1 million units.
Not one to rest on his laurels, Breland continued to impress with his songwriting skills, landing placements with artists like Trey Songz and contributing to tracks on YK Osiris' debut album, The Golden Child, released by Def Jam Recordings.
Since the success of "My Truck," Breland has collaborated with a diverse range of artists, including Keith Urban, Jimmie Allen, Mickey Guyton, and Nelly. His versatility and unique blend of musical genres have garnered him a growing fan base and critical acclaim.
In 2021, Breland performed at the CMT Music Awards, marking his return to live performances after the COVID-19 pandemic. His engaging stage presence and dynamic performances further solidified his status as a rising star in the music industry.
Known for his viral Instagram reels where he creatively predicts NFL playoff football scores, Breland continues to engage with his audience in innovative ways. His musical talent, combined with his charismatic personality, has endeared him to fans worldwide.
Breland acknowledges his parents and sister, Gigi, as significant influences on his musical journey. His family's deep roots in gospel music laid the foundation for his eclectic sound and lyrical storytelling. Despite his success, Breland remains grounded in his roots and values the support and guidance of his loved ones.
While his father may not know the lyrics to his songs, Breland's family continues to be his biggest supporters, cheering him on as he navigates the music industry with grace and determination.
