Angelos Postecoglou was born on August 27, 1965, in Greece. He moved to Australia in 1970 with his family after his father Dimitris lost his business. From a young age, Postecoglou was passionate about soccer and began playing for South Melbourne at the age of nine. He continued with the club throughout his junior career and eventually made his debut at the senior level in 1984.
Postecoglou quickly made a name for himself as a talented player and went on to represent the Australia national team from 1986 to 1988. During his time with South Melbourne, he caught the attention of legendary coach Ferenc Puskas, who had a significant influence on his development as a player.
After retiring as a player in 1993, Postecoglou transitioned into coaching and started as an assistant coach for South Melbourne. In 1996, he was promoted to head coach and led the team to success in the 1999 Oceania Club Championship.
Postecoglou's coaching career continued to flourish as he took on roles with various teams, including Celtic FC and the Australia men's national team. He became known for his innovative tactics and ability to inspire players to perform at their best. In 2021-22, he was honored with the Scottish Football Writers' Association Manager of the Year award.
Postecoglou is married to Georgia and the couple has three sons: James, Max, and Alexi. Despite his busy schedule as a soccer coach, he always makes time for his family and values their support and encouragement.
