Amjyot Singh, a professional power forward and small forward in the world of basketball, was born and raised in Chandigarh, India. During his formative years, Singh suffered an injury that temporarily sidelined him from his beloved sport of cricket. It was during this time that his father, Mohinder Singh, encouraged him to explore other athletic opportunities. Taking his father's advice to heart, Singh began to pursue basketball with a newfound determination.
Despite his late entry into the world of basketball, Singh quickly rose through the ranks. Within a year of starting his training, he was selected to represent the state and national U16 teams. His talent and dedication caught the attention of the Ludhiana Basketball Academy, where he honed his skills alongside some of India's top players.
After establishing himself as a rising star in Indian basketball, Singh went on to play for various professional teams both at home and abroad. He first made a name for himself with the NBDL's Tokyo Excellence, showcasing his versatility and skills on the court.
Singh's success in the NBDL caught the eye of the UBA Pro Basketball League, where he joined the Delhi Capitals and further solidified his reputation as a formidable player. His standout performances eventually led to a historic milestone when he became one of the first Indian men to sign a professional basketball contract overseas.
Throughout his career, Singh has represented India with pride on the international stage. He has competed in multiple FIBA Asia Championships, where he has demonstrated his exceptional talent and athleticism. Notably, he was the first Indian national to compete in the prestigious FIBA 3x3 World Tour Finals, showcasing his skills to a global audience.
Off the court, Singh comes from a family with a rich sporting heritage. His mother, Nirmal Kaur, is a former athlete, while his father, Mohinder Singh, is a former member of the India national basketball team and a respected figure in the Chandigarh Police force. In 2022, Singh tied the knot with his wife, Manpreet Kaur Gill, marking a new chapter in his personal life.
Among his many achievements, Singh has excelled in various statistical categories, including minutes played, points scored, rebounds, and blocks. His stellar performance at the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship solidified his status as one of India's top basketball talents, earning him accolades as the second-highest scorer in the championship.
Throughout his career, Singh has had the privilege of playing alongside talented teammates such as Daniel Hamilton and Frank Mason III.
