Amber Hagerman was born on November 25, 1986, in Arlington, Texas. She was the daughter of Richard Hagerman and Donna Whitson and had a brother named Ricky. Growing up in a close-knit family, Amber was known for her vibrant personality and love for adventure.
Tragedy struck on January 13, 1996, when Amber was abducted while riding her bike in Arlington. A neighbor who witnessed the abduction immediately called the police, but Amber was nowhere to be found. Days turned into weeks, and the community held onto hope that she would be found safe and sound.
Unfortunately, Amber's body was discovered abandoned in a storm drain ditch. Her abduction and murder shook the nation, leading to the creation of the AMBER Alert system in her honor. The system, which stands for America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response, is now used nationwide to quickly alert the public about abducted children.
Following the devastating loss of their daughter, Amber's parents, Richard and Donna, founded the organization People Against Sex Offenders. They have dedicated their lives to advocating for better laws to protect children and prevent similar tragedies from happening to other families.
Amber's murder remains unsolved, leaving her family and the community grappling with unanswered questions and a sense of injustice. She has been compared to another young victim, JonBenet Ramsey, whose murder also remains a mystery.
