Alex Caplow was born on December 18, 1989, in Massachusetts. From a young age, he showed a passion for music and knew that he wanted to pursue a career as a musician. Growing up in Boston, he was exposed to a vibrant music scene that fueled his creativity and inspired him to start his own band.
In 2010, Alex co-founded the synthrock band Magic Man with guitarist and keyboardist Sam Vanderhoop Lee. The two friends had a shared love for music and a desire to create something unique. They spent time traveling around France, drawing inspiration from their adventures to shape the sound of their band.
After solidifying the core duo of Alex and Sam, the band expanded to include high school friend Gabe Goodman on bass, as well as college friends Justine Bowe on keyboards and Joey Sulkowski on drums. Together, they formed a five-piece band that brought a diverse range of musical influences to the table.
Magic Man quickly gained attention for their energetic live performances and catchy synth-driven sound. They released an EP titled You Are Here, which showcased their talents and set the stage for their debut LP, Before the Waves.
