Al Golden was born on April 7, 1969 in New Jersey. From a young age, he had a passion for football and dreamed of playing professionally one day.
Golden attended Penn State University, where he played as a tight end for the Nittany Lions. He was a standout player on the team, showcasing his skills and determination on the field. After his college career, he had the opportunity to join the NFL's New England Patriots for the 1992 season, further solidifying his love for the sport.
After his brief stint in the NFL, Golden turned his focus to coaching. He began his coaching career at Penn State as a graduate assistant, learning the ins and outs of the game from some of the best in the business. From there, he went on to coach at various schools, honing his skills and knowledge of the sport.
In 2006, Golden was named the head coach of the Temple University football team. He quickly turned the program around, leading the team to success during his tenure. His hard work and dedication did not go unnoticed, as he was named MAC Coach of the Year in 2009 after an impressive 9-4 season.
In 2011, Golden was named the head coach of the University of Miami Hurricanes. This was a significant moment in his coaching career, as he took on the challenge of leading a prestigious program with a rich football history. Under his guidance, the Hurricanes experienced both successes and challenges, but Golden remained steadfast in his commitment to the team and the game.
Off the field, Golden is a devoted husband to Kelly Elizabeth Hanna and a loving father to his three children – daughters Addison and Grace, and son A.J. Family is important to Golden, and he values the support and love they provide him as he navigates his coaching career.
