Adam Weitsman was born on June 13, 1968, in Owego, New York. Growing up in a small town, he was exposed to the family business of scrap metal processing from a young age. After completing his high school education, he went on to pursue a degree in banking at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville.
In 1989, Weitsman ventured into the art world and began working at the prestigious Manhattan art gallery, Hirschl & Adler Folk. His passion for art led him to open his own gallery, the American Folk Art Gallery, in Greenwich Village in 1991. However, tragedy struck the family when his sister passed away from cancer in the early 1990s, prompting Weitsman to reassess his career path.
Following the loss of his sister, Weitsman made the decision to leave his art-gallery career in New York City and return to the family scrap metal business in Owego. In 1995, he became the vice president of Ben Weitsman & Son, the scrap processing company owned by his family. Over time, he eventually took over the reins from his father and became the owner and chief executive officer of Upstate Shredding-Weitsman Recycling.
Weitsman's entrepreneurial spirit has led him to explore various business opportunities. In addition to running the successful scrap metal processing company, he has delved into the restaurant industry and founded Viridium LLC, a cryptocurrency mining company, in 2021. He is constantly seeking new ways to diversify his business portfolio and stay ahead in the ever-changing market.
Aside from his business ventures, Weitsman is a family man. He shares three children with his ex-model wife, Kim DeFrance. In his spare time, he is passionate about collecting 19th-century American stoneware, which he has been generously donating to the New York State Museum in Albany since 1998.
